Willingness to Obey

So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today –
to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart
and with all your soul – then I will send rain on your land in its season,
both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your
grain, new wine, and oil.
Deuteronomy 11:13-14

God told the Israelites that He had a plan for their lives to be fruitful, but they must first be obedient in order to see the fulfillment of His promises. He told them that they were to love Him with all of their heart, and He would send rain on their land and the land would be fruitful.

Although God knows what is best for us and He is the Promise Keeper, we have a responsibility to obey Him in order to benefit from His provisions. This is where “the rubber meets the road.” We can have all the confidence in the world in God’s faithfulness and in His knowing what is best for us, but if we do not take this confidence “to the streets,” we will never truly know Jehovah Jireh. Abraham had grown to trust Jehovah completely, and now God was going to reveal to him Jehovah Jireh. The condition was that Abraham would have to obey. I don’t know about you, but I might have failed the test! Abraham, however, held the Word of God in his heart; he had taken the seeds of faith thtat God had planted, and he was not willing to let doubt or lack of trust keep him from seeing the promises fulfilled. You see, I think that Abraham’s obedience had to be tested in order for the promise to be fulfilled. Are you waiting on a promise to be fulfilled? Your part of obedience is key in seeing that promise fulfilled.

Heavenly Father,
I have been disobedient (fill in the blank). I see barrenness in the places where I desire to see fruitfulness. I chose to serve and love You with my whole heart, soul, strength, and mind, and I thank you for Your promise to send rain on the dry places of my life.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
