Psalm 7:8
The word Jehovah is formed from two tenses of the Hebrew verb “havah,” to be, and meaning “One who is what He is,” reflecting the words of God to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. (Exodus 3:14) Inherent in this name is His holiness and self-existence. Jehovah is the expression of God’s being, and therefore we see Him as holy, just, and true. In Genesis 2 and 3, we begin to see God as Jehovah who commands Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God is placing a requirement on Adam and Eve to be holy by being obedient to His commands. They failed the test, and we are introduced in God’s Word to JEHOVAH God, the Judge, as He disciplines His people. Because He is holy, He requires that we be holy. (Leviticus 20:24-25)
Are you able to say as King David did: judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness? Are you willing to stand before Jehovah, the Righteous Judge and, like David, say: Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Heavenly Father,
Search my heart, O Lord, and examine my thoughts; test my ways, and see if there is any offensive way in me.
