Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.

Psalm 103:1-4

Healing can be physical, emotional, or spiritual. Jeremiah cried out that the exiled people of Israel were crushed in spirit. He mourned for them and cried out for a “balm in Gilead.”(Jeremiah 8) Gilead means “praise.” When we offer up praise and devotion to the Lord, then Jehovah Rophe appears and brings healing to us. Consider the men and women of the Bible whose circumstances were wrought with emotional, physical, and spiritual need for healing. King David, for example, blessed the Lord during his afflictions, knowing that it was Jehovah Rophe who would heal him. (Psalm 103:1-2)

King Hezekiah, a king of Israel full of praise and devotion to God, received healing because he cried out to Jehovah Rophe. (II Kings: 20)

King David knew that only the Lord could forgive sins and heal diseases. He knew what it was like to be in the pit and had benefited from God’s mercy in redeeming him from the pit. David was pursued for years by King Saul who was jealous of him and knew that David would someday be the next king of Israel. David spent years anointed to be king, yet on the run from his enemies.

We all have times when we are in the pit, but we need not fear because He knows us by name and our names are engraved on the palm of His hand.

(Isaiah 49:16) I imagine that every now and then God looks on His hand and sees our name. He knows our distress; He knows our physical, emotional and spiritual needs. When we cry out to Him, He hears our cry and comes to our rescue: Because he loves me, says the Lord, “I will rescue him;” I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him. (Psalm 91:14-15)

Do you need to be rescued from the pit? Call upon the Lord, praise His name, forget not His benefits and remember that He will redeem your life from the pit and will crown you with love and compassion.

Heavenly Father,

I cry out to You for mercy. I am crushed in spirit and need Your healing and deliverance. I cling to Your Word that when I cry out, You will rescue me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
