A Prayer in a Season When I Forgot How to Worship

I want to lift my eyes to You, but my eyes have been filled with many things. Show me Your way, O Lord. Make my eyes bright in beholding Your face. You have promised to turn Your face to me.

Once there was a people whose foolish hearts were darkened as they refused to recognize You, O God. Let not my heart be darkened. As I look at the skies, the earth, and all the creatures You have made, let me look to You. You are the author of it all.

You have made Your beauty known to me in creation, and most perfectly manifest in Your Son. He is the image of the unseen God. He is the exact imprint of Your nature. When I look at You, Jesus, I see Your beauty. When I see Your suffering, You instill soaring wonder in my soul. To meditate on the cross is to gaze upon Your majesty.

Teach me to identify with You in Your suffering. As I obey Your commands, let it be worship unto my God, King, and Maker. You are the potter, I am the clay. Shall the clay say to the potter, “Why have you made me this way?” I am Yours.

Your name is great, and greatly to be praised. You are the beginning and the end. From You, through You, and to You are all things. It is a joy to worship You.

Guard me in Your pathway so that I might find Your holy habitation. Amen.
