Back to School Prayer for Students, Parents, and Teachers
As another school year begins, this back to school prayer asks God to surround our children, parents, and teachers with His presence, peace, wisdom, and grace.
Well friends, somehow it’s September again, and we find ourselves staring down the start of another school year. New school supplies, schedules, and rosters. New friends and new expectations come with all sorts of feelings.
However you’re connected to this new school year, and however you’re feeling about it, let me pray for you.
A Back to School Prayer for Our Children
Lord, You bid the children come to You. Call our children to Your side today. Have them bring this new school year along, with its many challenges, adventures, and opportunities in tow.
You held the children in Your arms and blessed them. When everything feels new and possible, or unfamiliar and overwhelming, let them feel Your arms around them. Let them hear Your voice saying, “You are My beloved. You are My child.”
You promised the Kingdom to those with a child’s trust and humility. Let our children see Your Kingdom at work in their classrooms and in their friendships.
Where there is darkness, bring Your light. Where there is pain, bring Your healing. Let our children see and know Your goodness.
Bless their schoolwork, homework, and social calendars, yes, but beyond that, bless them as they learn to rely on You. And let the world see Your love on display through our children this year.
A Prayer for Parents During the School Year
Lord, You are tender and compassionate, like a father to Your children. Be gentle with every parent.
When the schedules are new, the forms are mountainous, and routines feel like moving targets, pour out Your fatherly grace so we can extend grace to our families.
Lord, You said that if we, faulty parents, know how to give good gifts to our children, then You, our Heavenly Father, give good gifts to those who ask of You.
Remind us to come to You when we’re in need, in need of wisdom or guidance, margin or refreshment, or a way through the convolution that is math homework these days.
Remind us that everything we need is found in You. Make us expectant in our asking, certain You’ll meet us and guide us.
A Prayer for Teachers and Classrooms
Lord, Your followers called You “Teacher.” You taught them with clever stories and returned their questions with questions.
Ever patient, You never rushed them to understanding. You were content in their slow growth and trusted their maturity would come long after Your daily lessons were concluded.
Bless our teachers in this new school year. Thank You for their compassionate hearts, their curious minds, and their painstaking, practical planning.
Let every teacher reflect You, the Good Teacher, in their stories and questions and in their enduring, embodied presence. Give them joy in seeing their students grow, and help them create safe spaces to learn and belong.
Cover Us With Your Peace
For all of us, fix our eyes on You. For all of us, cover us with Your peace.
May this back to school prayer remind every student, parent, and teacher that You are present in every classroom, every challenge, and every new beginning.
