I love my walks! This time of year is especially beautiful. One thing I have noticed is the trend to wear weighted vests in order to maximize your walk or run workout. Although I am sure they have merit, I think they look cumbersome, and I’m just not interested. But for those of you who love them, you must have superpowers. Just looks so heavy. Yesterday on my walk, I thought of Paul’s words to the Corinthian church:
Don’t you know that the runners in the stadium all race but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize. (I Corinthians 9:24)
All I can say is that I would never win a prize if I wore that weighted vest.
Pondering the race, the author of Hebrews writes:
Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. (Hebrews 12:1)

We all have a race to run, a purpose in this life, but we get weighed down with obstacles that threaten to defeat us. We all have burdens that we wear that hinder us from reaching our potential to follow our calling in Christ. Burdens are like weighted vests.
What is so amazing about Jesus is that He bids us to come. Come where?
Jesus said, come to me all who are weary and heavily burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your soul. (Matthew 11:28-29).
Jesus says come to Him. And then He tells us to take His yoke; let Him carry the burdens you carry. In so doing, you will be yoked with Jesus, who is gentle and humble, and your soul will be at rest. How great is that! All we have to do is come, then allow Him to take our weighted vest.
What burdens are you carrying? By God’s grace, He stands ready for you to release to Him whatever keeps you from freely running your race. Freedom!
Love for you to allow us to come alongside and help you walk in freedom. There are several ways to connect with us. You can join our Drawing Near community by starting a study in your neighborhood, or join us live in the fall.
