Joshua’s Faithful Response

Today I want to share with you the day’s entry for my daily devotional, Drawing Near to God. I love when you follow the devotional along with me. In fact, my family members and I are doing my daily devotional together this year and discussing it via text message – it’s been really fun! You can buy a copy here or follow along online or via our mobile app. Today’s entry is all about Joshua stepping out in faith. Let’s take a look:

…the Lord said to Joshua, “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the Land I am about to give to them…As I was with Moses so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Joshua 1:1-5

The Lord promised Joshua that He would be faithful to him just as He had been to Moses. But just as Moses had to be faithful to respond to God’s call, so Joshua had to be obedient to follow the Lord’s instructions. God told Joshua that He would give him every place where he set his foot. The Scriptures show that God holds true to His promises to be fulfilled in us. The Lord promised that the Israelites that if they obeyed His command to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him, He would send rain on their land and cause them to prosper. (Deuteronomy 11:22) God continues to look for faithful men and women to whom He can entrust His promises.

God has promised to never leave you or forsake you. Has he asked you to step out in faith and serve Him in some way? Is He leading you in a direction that you have never been? The Lord always makes good on His promises but He waits for you to step out in faith. Trust Him and He will see you through.

Heavenly Father,
I am fearful of stepping out in faith in (you fill in the blank(s). Give me the courage to trust You and the willingness to obey.
In Jesus’ name, Amen
