The Glory of God Most High

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

Psalm 19:1

Psalm 19 declares the glory of God, describing God as God Most High. He is above all creation: In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun which is like a bridegroom coming from his pavilion. (v.4) David describes the skies as proclaiming the work of God’s hands. As Elohim God, He is the Creator. As El Elyon, He is God Most High.

El Elyon reveals His power throughout the Old Testament. We see the Red Sea part as the Israelites leave Egypt, their place of bondage. We see the Jordan River part as the people of God cross into the Promised Land.

We see El Elyon in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. We see El Elyon in the New Testament in the person of Jesus Christ, whose power has set us free from the curse of sin and death.

The heavens make a declaration glorifying God, and He is resident on earth through His Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. His desire is to be glorified as El Elyon in your life. When God’s power is seen in the life of a believer, evidence of God Most High is seen.

Why is it that we do not always exercise the authority and power we have in Christ? The enemy has contended for our spiritual lives with his lies.

One of the places he is at work is in causing God’s children to feel powerless against the tide of this present evil age. But the Word of God has given us instructions on how to move in authority and power; we must agree with the Word of God planted in us: Therefore get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you which can save you. (James 1:21)

As believers, the Living Word is planted in us – He is El Elyon, God Most High, and as He lives in us, the glory of God will be seen.

Heavenly Father,

Draw me near to You. Open my eyes that I might see the power of God at work in me. Forgive me when I deny the life of El Elyon at work in and through me, and help me to declare the glory of God so that others might draw near to You.
