And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
II Corinthians 11:14
Satan is the enemy of God’s people. He is the father of lies: You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. (John 8:44) Jesus pointed out that the enemy’s native language is lies and the Jews were deceived.
The enemy still speaks in his native language today, whispering lies in our ears. His lies bring confusion and disrupt our ability to hear the voice of God. As we recognize and refuse his lies, our spiritual ears are open to hear God’s truth. The enemy tempted Jesus and spoke lies to Him in the wilderness, but Jesus combated every lie with God’s Word. (John 4) We must combat his lies and agree with the truth of God’s Word.
Have you believed the lies of the enemy? Are you able to recognize his deception? He prowls around looking to see whom he can devour. (I Peter 5:8) He uses his lies to cause you to feel unworthy, rejected, or alone. God’s Word builds up; His Word tells us to stand firm and resist the enemy. (v.9)
When my daughter went through her rebellious years, the enemy tried to make me believe that I was a terrible parent. I recognized the father of lies trying to cause me to feel defeated, but holding on to God’s Word filled me with truth, and the enemy could not get a foothold. There were days when I agreed with the lies, but God in His mercy would remind me of His truth.
The next time you are tempted to agree with the father of lies, remember to hold up God’s Word. The enemy will not be able to withstand the truth.
Heavenly Father, Protect me from believing the lies of the enemy. Help me to stand firm and resist his assaults through the truth of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen
