Purposeful Witnesses

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

John 14:16-17

Webster’s dictionary defines “purpose” as intention or determination. To be purposeful is to be intentional or deliberate in accomplishing a goal. Over the past few years, much has been written on being “purposeful” in living.

Most of the writings have one thing in common: in order to accomplish something, you have to give it thought, set a goal, and then move forward with purpose to do it. It doesn’t do any good to have a plan if you aren’t intentional about carrying it out. So it is with being a witness for Christ. The Holy Spirit guides us in what to say, gives us insight on how to do it, and leads us to the person or persons who are ready for the Word. But God does not speak for us. We must take the initiative and be obedient.

Do you believe that the Holy Spirit lives in you? As a believer, He is resident within you seeking a surrendered life. He is your Counselor, the Spirit of truth, and will lead you and guide you in your pursuit of God.

Have you surrendered to Him asking the Holy Spirit to be released in your life as the “light force,” the transforming power of life within you? As you pray daily for the infilling of the Holy Spirit, the Lord will transform you, empower you, and guide you into truth. Jesus told the woman at the well:

If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water. (John 4:10) Ask the Lord to give you this living water today…His Spirit to fill you and to release His gifts within you …but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. (v.14)

Heavenly Father,

Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Stir up the gifts of Your Spirit within me so that I might be a powerful witness to Your holy name. When the waters seem to subside within me, fill me afresh and anew so that I can walk in Your will and Your ways. Help me to draw near to You and to receive the water that You give so that I might never thirst again.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
