Our Faithful Promises

For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

Hebrews 9:15

Believers are in covenant with God. When we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we come into a covenant with God and must be committed to respond in love and obedience to Him. We fulfill our commitment to love and serve God to the best of our ability. The world is watching to see if our walk and our talk line up in our commitment to love and serve God. In a world with a lost sense of commitment, we must take our covenant with God seriously. The writer of Hebrews challenges the church to persevere in attaining the promises that our commitment to Christ brings.

As faithful followers of Christ, we have a responsibility to show integrity in our relationships with other people. One way we do this is by being faithful to our commitments, or in a sense, covenants we make with them. If we tell someone we are going to do something, we must follow through.

Jesus Christ was the ultimate example of following through on His commitment to the Father to die on the cross for the sins of the world.

At any moment He could have said, “I have changed my mind; this is too difficult.” But He loved His Father, He loved humanity, and He obeyed.

David set an example as leader of Israel by being faithful to his word.

We need to follow the example of these great men. Pay attention to your words and to the commitments you have made to people. Determine to be committed to persevere. Remember, the world is watching to see if there are men and women who are trustworthy. Many will let them down. Work diligently not to be one of them.

Heavenly Father,

Help me to only commit to those things which I am able and willing to follow through. Keep ever before me the standard of the covenant relationship and commitment I have with You and help me to bring this standard into my every day commitments.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
