Good afternoon! For those of you who keep up with my blog weekly, you know that on Thursdays I share notes from my Thursday morning teachings. I do this so that those of you who cannot join us in person can get a feel for what we are studying and those of you who are participating, have another resource at hand as we study together. (Although remember you can always join us via streaming!)
Today we talked about Esther 5 & 6. In this part of the story, we see Esther approaching the king, who extends his scepter out to her. Let’s look at a little bit of background information here:
A scepter is an ornamental staff carried by rulers on ceremonial occasions as a symbol of sovereignty.
You see, Esther had to wait for the scepter to be handed to her. In this same manner, in the Old Testament, the people had to do various sacrificial things to present themselves before they could approach a Holy God. The only way we could ever approach God was to have a way made for us. And when God sent His only Son, Jesus, the way was made. Jesus holds the scepter of righteousness. He is both our Shepherd and Our King. 
But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God will last forever and ever; a scepter of righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.” (Hebrews 1:8)
I shared an excerpt of this video (linked here and below) to show how Esther approached the king. I encourage you to watch until the 2:55 mark and as you watch, reflect on how powerful it is that because of Jesus, we have access to the throne room every single minute of the day.
