A Love for God’s Word

Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

Psalm 119:97-99

Psalm 119 is a devotional on the Word of God. The author was devoted to God’s Word. He hid the Word in his heart so that he would not sin. (v.11) He submitted his life to the correction of the Word. Throughout I and II Samuel, David “inquired of the Lord.” He sought the Lord before battles and often went to the priests for counsel. Saul, on the other hand, sought counsel from the witch of Endor. When Saul inquired of the Lord,

He did not answer him, perhaps because Saul had been disobedient to the instructions of the Lord. Therefore, Saul sought counsel from the witch of Endor to find out the outcome of the battle. (I Samuel 28:7)

Courageous leaders need to recognize that the answers to their problems are found in God and His Word. They need to turn to the Lord in prayer and to His Word for counsel. More and more people are searching for answers. They are turning to psychics, horoscopes, and crystal balls.

As leaders, we have an awesome responsibility to encourage people in our sphere of influence to turn to God’s Word for help.

Heavenly Father,

Sometimes I simply do not want to take the time to read Your Word. Sometimes I read Your Word and I walk away having heard it, yet not responding. I desire to meditate on Your Word and have Your Word transform my hard heart. As I meditate on Your Word, help me to respond in obedience.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
