Committed to God

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
Psalm 37:5-6

We live in a world that is stressed by commitment. We are all over- committed, and there is little time left over to commit to the Lord. Today’s reading challenges us to commit our ways to God and to trust in Him. This requires our time – time to develop our relationship with God. When trials are upon us we may turn to God, but He desires that we commit to Him daily so that when the trials hit, we will be able to trust Him based on our relationship.

If David were to write a purpose statement for his life, it would be to seek his Lord and dwell in His presence forever. He wrote, “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life…” (Psalm 27:1) So great was David’s commitment to God, that when his son Absalom rebelled against him and tried to take his throne, he told Zadok, the priest, “Take the Ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the Lord’s eyes, He will bring me back and let me see it and His dwelling place again. But if He says, ‘I am not pleased with you,’ then I am ready; let Him do to me whatever seems good to Him.” (II Samuel 15:25-26) His complete trust in the Lord helped him to be wholly committed to Him no matter what happened.

What are the things in your life that keep you from being so committed to God that no matter what is happening in your life, you are still able to trust Him? Commit to spending time daily with Him, and He will bring justice to your cause. (Psalm 37: 5-6)

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for Your Word that instructs me to commit my life to You and to trust You.

Forgive me that I have neglected my relationship with You and only turn to You in the “storms of life.” I thank you that when I spend time with You, my trust will grow, and You will bring justice to my cause.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
