God With Us

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the WORD, and the Word was with God; the Word was Jesus. The word means logos and is God’s utterance on earth. Jesus had a history before He came to earth, and John tells us it was that of the Word. In the book of Hebrews we read, “In many ways God spoke of old to our fathers by the prophets; but in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son. (Hebrews 1:1-2) Jesus is the eternal Son, the eternal WORD.

God spoke and the world came to life, and He sent His Son to earth to speak and bring life to the desolate, the broken, and the needy. God’s Word brought life. The words of Christ brought life, and today His Holy Spirit in us speaks life.

In the beginning was the Word… the Word of life. The author of Hebrews warns us that we must not harden our hearts to God’s Word: Today, if you hear His voice do not harden your hearts as you did in the days of rebellion. (Hebrews 3:15)

This Scripture refers back to the days when the Israelites refused to listen to the voice of God and rebelled in unbelief. They wandered for 40 years in the wilderness, and the entire generation of those who rebelled died before entering the Promised Land.

God is still speaking today, and He is reminding us not to harden our hearts to His Word. He speaks through His Word and His Holy Spirit.

When God speaks and you turn away in disobedience, His promise is left unfulfilled. What promises are you waiting for? Ask the Lord if you have been disobedient to His Word and seek to obey.

Heavenly Father,

Forgive me for disobeying Your Word. I turn back to You and ask You to soften my heart so that the next time You speak, I will obey.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
