Hindsite 2020 Video Blog

As we have been sheltering in place, I have heard comments that range from “ I am struggling with home schooling, I need a break” to “ I am lonely and feeling isolated.” We can all agree that the pandemic has impacted each of in different ways. Many have lost their jobs and their sense of security is threatened for the future. Some have contracted the virus and others live in fear that they will get it. As Christians, we are asking ourselves what is God saying in the midst of this? For me, it has been a reset of my life. The spinning plates no longer spinning and time to make space to hear God’s voice. It’s not that I didn’t hear Him before. I wait expectedly to hear what He will say to me through my daily Scripture reading. I pray fervently. But now…. there is a quiet deep within my soul. During my early morning quiet time (or so I used to call it) I was chattering to God concerning all the things that were troubling me. Now I sit and wait on the Lord to speak to my heart. I sit outside and watch the birds on the feeder. We put the feeders up 5 years ago and I had yet to watch— I mean really watch them. My thoughts wander as I watch them and hear the words of Jesus: Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more valuable than they?

Friends, the Lord has a reset for each of us during this stressful season. He longs for us to spend time with Him; hear His voice and receive His comfort, love and purpose for our lives. My hope and prayer is that I will not go back to spinning plates but will spend more time watching the birds and listening to the Shepherd’s voice.
