We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:6
The Greek word for sin is hamartia, which translates “missing the mark.” When we sin, we miss the mark of obtaining God’s best for our lives.
My son loves to bow hunt for deer. In order to shoot the deer, he must first line up the animal in the “sight” of the bow or else he will miss the target.
When we do not keep God “in sight,” we fall prey to sin. We must align ourselves with God’s Word in order to stay on target and hit the mark to assure that we are in God’s will.
In what area of your life do you fall prey to “missing the mark”?
Sometimes it is obvious to us where we are not in obedience to God’s Word, and other times we must pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any area where we fall short of God’s will. I always find God to be faithful to show me when I ask and faithful to help me return to Him and get on track. Take a moment and ask the Lord to show you where you may have taken a wrong turn. He will be faithful to show you the way.
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight. (Proverbs 3:2)
Heavenly Father,
I have sinned (fill in the blank) and have turned away from You. I long to follow Your will, and today I acknowledge that I have not trusted You in this area of my life. I bring You back in focus today acknowledging my weakness and turning to You for strength. I know that You alone are trustworthy to help me get back on track, and I rejoice in returning to You.
