Powerful Witnesses

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Acts 1:8

In the gospel of John, Jesus promises to send His Holy Spirit when He leaves earth to go back to His Father. He promises He will not leave them (or us) on earth as orphans without power and guidance to live the Christian life. As I grow older, I often think I ought to have enough experience to deal with most things, but this is not the case. It is true that the Lord gives us wisdom when we ask, but usually life continues to be so challenging. I have realized that I need to rely on the Holy Spirit to guide and help me throughout each day. I challenge you to join me in beginning each day with a simple prayer: “Lord, please fill me today with your Holy Spirit.” All day long we need to ask the Lord to refill us because we “leak.” It is the power of the Holy Spirit that enables us to live the Christian life and be effective witnesses for God.

Heavenly Father,

I want to be bold for You, but I shrink back in fear of being rejected. I pray to share my faith story in an unimposing and humble way. I fear that I will not say the right words, or that my actions will betray me as I share my testimony of faith. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit who empowers and strengthens me to do Your will.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
