The Gospel Preached to All Nations

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14

After Jesus lists a series of events that point to His return, He proclaims that the gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. He clearly places that statement between prophecies that seem to predict dire times. Jesus is showing His disciples that a series of events is leading to the most significant event of all the ages: the preaching of the gospel to all nations. He is reminding them that His purpose in all things is to bring the fulfillment of His kingdom to earth, bringing people of all nations into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches us that someday every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. (Philippians 2:10) Although the events seem frightening, He wanted them (and us today) to know that all things will work together for God’s ultimate purpose of redemption and the consummation of the age. Let us remember that God is patient, not wanting anyone to perish, but for everyone to come to repentance. (II Peter 3:9) That gives us the reassurance that the Lord always wants to save us. If God is for us, who can possibly be against us? (Romans 8:31) The world today seems upside down. As we read the newspapers and listen to the news, we wonder why the Lord doesn’t just return and straighten things out! Jesus Christ came to save the lost, and He still desires that no one perish. He is asking us to continue to share His good news with the people we come in contact with. He is patient, and although the end seems near, according to His Word, He will not return until the gospel is preached to the whole world. We better get busy!

Heavenly Father, Help me to be a witness of Your love to all I come in contact with. I may not be able to quote Scriptures as I would like or to explain passages of Scripture, but I am able to share my story of how You have brought me hope. Give me the courage to share my hope with others so that I can be a part of speeding Your return. In Jesus’ name, Amen
