The Holy Spirit’s Guidance

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes he will guide you in to all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

John 16:13

Think back on Acts 3:8 when Peter, “filled with the Holy Spirit,” spoke boldly proclaiming the Kingdom of God and faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit empowered him to speak and empowered the Apostles to carry on the work of spreading the gospel. Many years ago, I prayed for the Lord to fill me with His Spirit because I felt that I needed help to grow in my faith. I acknowledged Jesus as my Lord and Savior, but I felt  a lack of power to live the Christian life. The Lord showed me that I had not made room in my life for the Holy Spirit to lead the way in every area of my life. I acknowledged that the Holy Spirit resided in me and allowed His life-changing power to work in me. Now every day I ask the Lord to fill me with His Spirit and I like to say, “move over self and make room for the King of Kings!” The Holy Spirit led the people of the first century church and He will still lead us today if we yield to Him daily or any time we take back control of our lives.

Are you seeking guidance? The Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you into truth. (John 16:13) Ask the Lord to fill you with His life-giving Spirit and he will reveal to you what is to come.

Heavenly Father,

Fill me daily with your Holy Spirit. Empower me like the apostles to boldly proclaim the kingdom of God. Lead and guide me into truth as I seek to do your will.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
