The Laborers are Few…

Today is Labor Day. Labor Day in the United States is a public holiday on the first Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the prosperity and well being of the country. For many Americans, Labor Day also marks the beginning of the school year and the season of fall.

As I reflect on Labor Day and it’s meaning on this Making Space for God Monday, I am reminded of Jesus’ words:

The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few

Jesus had just appointed 72 people and sent them on ahead of Him, two by two, into every town and place where He himself was about to go.

So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into His fields….

Beloved friends, Jesus sent laborers into the spiritual harvest field to make disciples, followers of the way, the truth and the light.

Jesus was and is the way the truth and the light…

Today as we celebrate Labor Day, let us remember that as Christians we labor in the fields of other people’s lives sharing our faith, praying for them, and bringing them to Jesus. We labor not in vain because He has promised to be with us wherever we go.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age.

Friends, as you enjoy your Labor Day celebration, take time to reflect on how, as a follower of Jesus Christ your best labor is done as you lead others to Christ. There is no greater reward!
