Trust in God to Know What is Best

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5

Learning to trust that God knows what is best for me has been the turning point of my faith. Believing that Elohim, my Creator, knows exactly what I need and when I need it has been life-changing. Faith to trust in God begins with the knowledge that He is our Creator. Who could know better what is best for us than the One who not only created us, but also loves us with a perfect love? As we grasp that truth, the next step is to know Jehovah Jireh as our Provider. Abraham met Jehovah Jirah one day on Mount Moriah. God told him to saddle up his donkey, take His only son Isaac, and sacrifice him on the altar as a burnt offering. Abraham obeyed and started up the mountain. I cannot imagine what must have been going through his head: “…but Lord, this is the promised son – remember? This is the son you promised when you told me I would be the Father of many nations. Did you forget? Have you gone mad?” He may have been thinking those things but we do know for sure that he obeyed. He also demonstrated in his words that he trusted that the Lord would deliver his son: He said to his servants, stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. WE will come back to you. (Genesis 22:5) He expected Isaac to return with him because he trusted His God!

Perhaps he thought that God would provide another sacrifice (which he did), or perhaps he thought that he would raise his son from the dead. Regardless, we see that he trusted Jehovah to provide for him.

God will provide what we need, exactly when we need it. We have only to ask and allow Him! He may not make provision according to our timetable, but he answers according to His plan. Perhaps you remember the show “Father Knows Best.” It was one of my favorite shows, and I looked forward to watching it every week. The father in the show was full of wisdom, and the children respected him. As we grow in our knowledge of Jehovah Jireh, we will learn to trust that He truly knows best!

In what circumstances do you need to meet Jehovah Jireh? God’s Word says to trust the Lord with all of your heart and He will provide by making your path straight.

Heavenly Father,

I desire to trust You with (fill in the blank.) Every time I think I have let go, I realize that I haven’t. My fear keeps getting in the way of trusting You. Just as Abraham was fully persuaded that You would keep Your promise, help me to trust Your Word as Jehovah Jirah, my Provider.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
