Trusting God’s Deliverance

“The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with You.”

I Samuel 17:37

David had seen God come to his aid when he kept his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, David went after it, struck it, and rescued the sheep from its mouth. He had seen the Lord deliver the sheep from harm’s way using him as the means of deliverance. He had confidence that if God could empower him with supernatural strength to deliver the sheep from a lion and a bear, He would certainly deliver him from the giant. What an attitude of trust! The truth is that as we grow in our understanding of God’s character, we learn that God is for us: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) David was confident that God was for him because even as a shepherd boy, he had sought the Lord. During the long days and nights in the fields, he had gazed at the stars and knew that Elohim God had created them. He had watched the sheep under his care and knew that he was under the care of His Great Shepherd. He had fought the lion and the bear because he knew that HIS Great Shepherd would fight the lions and bears in his life.

Do you trust the Lord to deliver you from the giants in your life – the fears, the anger, the insecurities that plague you? As you study the story of David and the giant, take time to give the Lord your “giants.” He will destroy them with but a single stone because He is for you. You are His beloved child!

Trusting the Lord is the key to being delivered from our enemies. Perhaps you are presently going through a difficult time in a relationship, or you are struggling with a sin, or your life seems beset with problems. Scripture gives you hope to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

(Proverbs 3:5-6)

Heavenly Father,

I am surrounded with the “lions and bears” of life. I am confused, angry, and fearful. Your Word promises me that You will deliver me from my enemies. I am counting on You. I have nowhere else to turn.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
