What Was I Thinking?

Have you ever said to yourself, ” What was I thinking?” We all have! There are times that we do things and we wonder if we checked our mind out for a few minutes or even a few days.  Often when we say this we are having regrets and perhaps even condemning ourselves for making poor choices. Here is the thing. We all make mistakes. We all have regrets but there is always a BUT GOD… There is always Someone to turn to to make it right. When Jesus was looking down from the cross, barely breathing, His lungs collapsing, He looked at humanity and I believe as Savior said to His Father, “It was all worth it”. We know that His last words were “It is finished.” He did it. He made a way for us to come to Him when we blow it; when we do what we wished we had not done or said something we ought not to have said. You see His death bought our freedom.

So… when you find yourself saying: ” What was I thinking when I did that? ” remember that it is at that very crossroads, we must remember His words on the cross: “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” There were those who crucified Jesus who had no idea that He was the Savior but He asked His Father to forgive them. There are those whom you hurt by thought, word, or deed but we have an advocate who understands when we turn to him and ask for forgiveness.

I’m bringing this subject up today on this beautiful Monday morning because friends, it’s time we recognize that our freedom is just a text away, or an email, or a voice message or better yet, a face to face conversation offering forgiveness or asking for forgiveness. These days I see way too many unresolved conflicts that with a few simple words of forgiveness can pave the way to freedom.

The question I have for you today is have you been beating yourself up for something you did or said? Then stop right now and go to your Advocate Jesus. Get things right with Him first and then approach the issue head-on with others or maybe just yourself if you are the only one involved. Christianity is more than a doctrine or system of belief. Christianity is based on a relationship with the One who loves you even to the point of having died for you. Freedom. What a beautiful word.
