When God is Working Things Out

Recently I went on a trip—a fabulous trip with my daughters and granddaughters. We laughed so much I thought my sides would split. We shared stories and joys and exchanged sad stories. We ate a lot, hung out a lot, and at times some of us (not saying who) danced for no reason because a great song was playing. Four fun days I wished never had to end.

During our time together, I kept hearing the scripture:

I work all things out for good for those who love me and are called according to my purpose. (Romans 8:28)

It was as if this scripture was playing in the background of my head while we were living another life on the outside. I knew the Lord was speaking to me, but I had no idea what was being worked out as we simply enjoyed one another’s company.

As I reflect on our days together, it’s now apparent that The Good Shepherd was at work through our laughter, our times of sharing and playing and dancing — yes even dancing! He was working things out as we simply enjoyed our lives.

This scripture is a promise to us that He is at work for our good even when we can’t see or hear Him.

And here’s what He was doing. In each of our lives, we had something going on where we needed Him to show up. And He did. There were no obvious solutions at the time that we could see, but as we simply enjoyed a much needed respite from some of the stresses we carry, God jumped in and used this time together to bring healing and joy and hope.

As I write this, I realize that God’s ways are not our ways. We look for answers to our problems, and when our prayers are not answered, we lose hope. In our results-oriented world where our timetable for God working things out seems endless, He IS still at work.

In the meantime, as you wait, open your hearts to hear the song He is playing over you.

I rejoice over you with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)

I am working all things out for good (Romans 8:28)

He is singing a song of deliverance, a song of healing, a song of hope and yes He IS working things out on HIS timetable and with his divine measurables. Jesus tells us not to be anxious. Paul tells us to present our requests to Him and He will make our path straight.

And while you are waiting, live life— enjoy the family and friends He has given you. Find joy in serving others. And rest assured He is working all things out for your good.
