You are Irreplaceable

Welcome to Making Space for God Monday!  Some of you may never have been on this blog site. Stick with us. Together we are finding ways to make space for God. Today my topic is reminding you that you are irreplaceable. Yes, you! In ministry, I spend a great deal of time with so many amazing people but the one common theme seems to be the theme of identity. Who am I? Am I special? What is my purpose? Am I significant? So let’s go to God’s Word and see what He says:

  • You are fearfully and wonderfully made
  • You are God’s masterpiece; His workmanship
  • You are His beloved
  • He has created you with purpose

So if God thinks of you as beautiful, significant, and with purpose, why do we think less of ourselves?

The disciples, according to Scripture were ordinary, unschooled men, but when the people saw the courage of Peter and John and realized these were some extraordinary men!

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus (Acts 4:13)

Friends, the key to knowing our significance in Christ is to spend time with Him- in prayer, in His Word, and with other Christians to help us on our journey. Almost every time I ask those who feel insignificant how much space they have made for God, the answer is, “not much.” Peter and John were fishermen earning a living the best way they knew how. Once they met Jesus, their lives were forever changed. Their new occupation became followers of Jesus and fishers of men — a formidable task. I suspect on occasion they wished they could go back to their simple life. But they were called for significant kingdom work and their worth was in knowing and serving Christ. No matter what profession we have, our worth is not in what we do but in whose we are— children of God.

Together let’s be intentional to spend time with Jesus and like Peter and John, others will be astonished and note that we have been with Jesus.

Let us know how you find ways to spend with God so we can all be encouraged to make space for God.

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing (I Thessalonians 5:11)
