God Bless America

Today we celebrate Memorial Day. Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

As Christians, we have a responsibility to pray for our country– for our leaders, our government and for those who serve in the U.S. military. In an exchange with the Pharisees, Jesus reminded his disciples that they must respect their government and pay taxes. We all pay taxes. But do we all pray for our country? I, for one, am reminded today of the significance of our prayers and specifically prayers for our country.

On this day, as we honor the men and women who died while serving in the military, let us remember that it is these men and women who have kept our country safe.

And let us also remember to pray that God will bless this mighty nation– the home of the free and the brave so that we can be a blessing to the world.

Have a blessed day!
