Seeking God

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.    Jeremiah 29:13

Throughout the Scriptures, we learn that if we seek God, we will find Him; if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. (Jeremiah 29:13, James 4:8) For years I didn’t understand the importance of seeking the Lord and intentionally drawing near to Him. I thought that it was God’s job to move me closer to Him! As I study the Scriptures, I am now more aware that our relationship with God is similar to our relationships with friends. In order to grow closer to someone, we must spend time with him or her and communicate by both listening and sharing in order to learn more about each other. God created us to know Him intimately and to be His closest friend.

Do you know Him as your best friend, or are you just acquainted with Him? Choose today to make Him your best friend and draw near to Him—He is only a heartbeat away.

Heavenly Father,

You alone are the perfect friend. I have been disappointed by friends in the past and need a trustworthy friend. I choose today to seek You with all of  my heart and to draw near  to You in prayer and in meditating on Your Word. Help me to know the secrets of Your heart and remove the blocks that keep me from trusting You with my secrets.

In Jesus’ name, Amen
